Digital Strategy

A Framework For Creating Engaging Websites
Technology continues to evolve and change at a rapid pace as does the need to have informative, engaging digital content. There is a growing need for all of us to work together and focus on digital strategy because it includes so many touch points with prospective and current students, employees, alumni and the Wake Forest community and should not be isolated to smaller conversations.
To that end, a collaborative approach is necessary with everyone who manages digital content in order to align to changing priorities, and make sure the goals we set and how we measure success have real impact on those who are interested in engaging with Wake Forest University.

A variety of resources are available to help Wake Forest site content editors update and maintain their websites using industry best practices. Explore the topics below to find guidance and strategies that support your content goals.
Siteimprove
Siteimprove is a comprehensive web governance and optimization platform available to Wake Forest staff who manage website content. University Marketing and Communications (UMC) provides access to Siteimprove for department website editors whose sites are hosted within the UMC WordPress environment, enabling them to monitor and improve the overall health, quality, and performance of their websites.
With Siteimprove, website editors can:
- Identify and resolve broken links, spelling errors, and content quality issues.
- Measure website performance through a robust analytics suite.
- Evaluate accessibility compliance and receive guidance on addressing accessibility barriers and compliance issues.
- Monitor SEO performance and visibility metrics to better understand search presence and user engagement.

Content Strategy
To help Wake Forest website editors and content managers create the best possible experience for their audiences, we’ve put together a web content best practices toolkit, which includes guidance on how to write effective content, organize and present information clearly, and improve your site’s visibility for both traditional search engines and GenAI tools.
In addition, the UMC Digital Strategy and IS Technology Accessibility teams offer a variety of presentations and one-on-one consultations to help website editors and content managers strengthen their digital skills and make the most of the University’s web tools.

Analytics
To understand how effectively your website is performing, it’s important to define clear goals for your content and identify meaningful ways to measure engagement. Siteimprove Analytics, Wake Forest’s primary web analytics platform for website editors, provides valuable insights into how users interact with your site, how engaged they are with your content, and—most importantly—whether your website is achieving its intended objectives.
Access to Siteimprove Analytics is limited to Wake Forest users with a Siteimprove account. If you need website analytics reports or insights and aren’t a Siteimprove user, or would like access to GA4 data or reports, please contact us to discuss your reporting needs.

Website Accessibility
